By keeping a note of my thoughts in sketchbooks I found the subjects covered a wide spectrum of interests. Whilst it's important to develop subject matter and avoid becoming lost by the never ending onslaught of information there's only so much editing out of ideas that can be done before one begins to curtail one's own perspective.
Bookbinding
By making my own sketchbook I once landed a job bookbinding for 4 years as part of a team at Torch Trust for the Blind manufacturing braille and giant print books for home and abroad. I showed them my handmade sketchbook and they offered to teach me some professional skills. Once I mastered the techniques and streamlined the process we ended up making a lot of books together.
